About the Artist

Jon Seeman was born in the artistic community of Laguna
Beach, California. Having ART in his DNA, his family
includes a mix of prominent artists, inventors and
engineers. By the age of fifteen, Seeman had created his
first welded steel sculpture. Now at the age of 72 is
designing his 44th public sculpture.
In his early twenties he took up residence in Manhattan and
became immersed in the art world where he searched for
his artistic voice by experimenting in different media and
styles. He found his challenge and passion in three-
dimensional modern design.
Sculpting soon became an obsession. After apprenticing
with several artisans and learning the necessary skills, he
returned home to Laguna Beach. Seeman opened his own
studio and continued with advanced art education courses.
Influential for him were the early modern abstract artists,
Kandinsky in particular. Seeman’s goal was to build large
abstract sculpture, especially in the realm of public art.
His career as an acclaimed sculptor truly jump-started in
Hollywood, California through the big players of the
affluent film industry. Shortly after opening his Laguna art
studio in 1979, he sold his 10-feet tall sculpture titled
Pierced Arc to a well-known film producer. Oscar-winning
stars, film directors, and well-known musicians took notice
of his large scale steel sculptures and became some of his first
significant collectors, allowing him to develop the
recognition of his work at a high level.
The structural integrity of steel gave Seeman the ability to
support the balance and sense of suspension of his bold
geometric elements. His innovative techniques allow him to
weld sculptural forms with almost invisible connections.
His creations are inspired from dynamic interaction among
geometric elements that seemingly defying the principles of
gravity: “I like to design without regard to gravity which in
turn provides me with the challenges of fabrication.”
