About the Artist
Artist Statement
My name is Joan Schnuerch. I am originally from Berlin, Germany, where my
nickname was Joschi, pronounced in English as yo-shee.
I have a degree in Fashion Design and there found my talents with drawing. After
graduating college, I moved to America and discovered that art would continue to be
an active part of my life. Living in Queens, NY, I took an art course with the Famous
Artists School in Westport, CT under the tutelage of Norman Rockwell, Robert
Fawcett, Ben Stahl, and others.
Years later, after raising a family on Long Island, I made my home in Florida and
began to paint more seriously, mainly working with oil. While oil paintings were
becoming my passion, I also used watercolors and acrylics leading me to develop
my own style of art. My style is a fusion of the influence of the impressionist artists
with a concentration on landscapes, seascapes, portraits, and capturing movement
in people, especially with playful children.
After painting on canvas for over 25 years, I am now doing some sculpture paintings. I
was always intrigued by paintings with a 3D look. I worked out a way to make object
look alive in a virtual glass cage. The wooden base give is a strong anchor with the
objects floating in the glass.
