WALTER DIEHL— Walter Diehl is a self taught artist living and working in Richmond, VA. Having studied environmental science at University, Walter liked the idea of giving discarded items another purpose. One day years ago he found a chair on the side of the street ready for the rubbish heap. He had an idea there to make that chair into a piece of artwork. Now his family and friends cheerfully give him furniture and other workable items normally headed for the trash.

The artwork is a playful exercise in perspective. What appears to the eye to be three dimentional is really flat and two dimentional. Walter likes to describe what he does by drawing a square on a piece of paper and then adding the lines that make the square look like a cube. We know the cube on the paper is flat but it looks 3-D. That is where the fun of the artwork lies. Each piece is meant to to hang on a wall using a single nail.
